Toadskin: A Journal of Traditional Witchcraft
Volume One of Toadskin: A Journal of Traditional Witchcraft, will be entitled "Nicneven's Black Cavern and the Strange Folk." All articles that it will contain- and this is intended to be a partial submission guide for any hopeful contributors out there- will be on one of the following three themes:
Traditional Initiatory Patterns, Experiences and Metaphysics in historical Witchcraft and Secret or Sorcerous Societies (and how potent, effective initiatory-type ritual processes and dramas might be created today for group or personal use for the purpose of provoking fundamental transformations within the mind and soul)
Traditional Sorcerous Charms for Fertility, Birth, Safety for Children, Healing, Protection, and Killing (how they are presented or recorded in historical/archaeological/literary sources, what metaphysical rationale they may contain, and how they might be utilized in the modern day)
Dealings with the Other-Than-Human World: Accounts of Mythical, Mystical or Sorcerous Human Interactions with Animals, Spirits or Otherworldly Beings (and how our own behaviors, approaches, and ritualized displays of respect/friendship or attempts at pact-making can be shaped by these things)
Articles shouldn't be longer than 15-20 single-spaced document pages in length.

"This journal- devoted to the topics of spiritual ecology, traditional witchcraft, and folklore, and tentatively entitled "Toadskin"- will not be like other journals of a similar theme. To begin with, few other journals (if any) on these topics includes any real element of spiritual ecology. But this one will- but it will focus on the traditional legends, lore, and workings of pre-modern Witchcraft.
But this journal will be different in that each journal will also be a grimoire of types. Each essay or article that will appear in each edition will not be only academic in nature; each will contain practical instructions or notes for practical, real-world, real-life applications of the things discussed within.
For example, I have an essay I'm preparing right now on Initiation Ritualism in Toadmanry, The Horseman's Word, and Masonry- but instead of just talking about the things and concepts involved in their initiatory practices, I will include an extensive section on how you and your fledgling initiatory society can create your own initation rituals based on these age-old patterns. It will include a discussion on what "initiation" is and why certain old experiences and symbolic presentations were important to initiatory societies. It will talk about what symbols, presented under certain controlled, extreme conditions, can do to the soul.
Imagine a 250 page journal of articles like that, covering all sorts of topics. We willl make the journal available in hard copy through createspace and Amazon, and in kindle format. We will approach writers and stalwarts of the traditional sorcerous or spiritual-ecological way that we already know, that we believe could contribute amazing content, and open the door for submissions from those who believe they can make great contributions, too.
I have posted articles on traditional sorcerous works, with examinations of their internal metaphysical rationales, and notes towards how they could be used "in real life." I want to do it more.
The amount of interest we receive from this announcement of the idea, plus the amount of interest shown in our initial volume, will determine whether or not this project can be bi-annual, or quarterly, or if it can continue at all. But for now, the path to Volume 1 is laid bare, and we are going to begin walking it. "
