Preliminary Considerations
For those wishing to engage in the operation found within, or in any operation of Divine Inducement using the Greater Mysteries of the Tarot, I strongly suggest that you use the Major Arcana Cards (0-XXI) from one of the following decks:
The Visconti-Sforza Tarot
The Nigel Jackson Tarot
The Renaissance Tarot deck by Brian Williams
The Tarot Maddonni
The Crowley Thoth Tarot
These decks have the proper and needed visual symbolism of the Tradition, and the proper attribution of Justice to Key VIII and Strength to Key XI. Rider-Waite decks can be used, as long as you remember to mentally juxtapose Keys VIII and XI. Vargo's "Gothic Tarot" also has a Key XIII card that is stunning and perfect for the work we are going to discuss below. Bear in mind that not all decks have the needed symbolism; many modern decks are travesties, and no longer contain within them the traditional symbolism that makes the Tarot Mysteries what they are. Use the decks I listed above as a guide to determining this. The Book that comes with the Nigel Jackson Tarot Deck is a complete guide to working with this system of Divine Inducements; I suggest you purchase his deck to get this book- and the Major Arcana that he created are perfect for any of these workings.
I have become relatively proficient in the simple yet profound, deep, and astounding magical system that uses the Holy "Iynges" or Links provided by the Sacred Images of the Twenty-Two Trump or Key images of the Major Arcana, for the purposes of divine magical art.
This system has, among its "accepted" preliminaries, that the 22 Greater Mysteries or Trumps (also called "Triumphs" or "Thriamboi") are not haphazardly assembled images, but sacred and fateful icons which allow the human mind to merge with or connect with the Divine Mind, through the symbol or the Trump-image itself.
There is no logical explanation for this "enlinkage"- it occurs on a level above the rational tendencies of the mortal mind. A total amount of faith is required in the tradition to make these operations successful.
The 22 Great Mysteries are not only images on Tarot Cards; the images you see are just manifestations, in artistic form, of the 22 Great Mysteries that make up all of Reality. The ultimate root of these 22 powers or mysteries is not one that can be said or known in a dualistic or linguistic manner. The ultimate root of these powers must forever remain "unknown" to the conscious mind that desires to label and explain things- the Ultimate Root is forever outside of becoming an "object of knowledge"- and yet, it CAN be experienced in a whole, full, and mysteriously sublime manner.
This "experience" is the keynote of the entire mystical path, the experience of the Secret itself, the Magnum Mysterium, the Truth that cannot be uttered, by reason of its immensity, its intimacy to the utterer, and by reason of its infinity- and yet, here, in every seemingly paltry mortal thing, is the secret so perfectly manifest. What divine madness that we mortals should sit, daily, with the fire of the mystery burning us, yet be unable to call out a name for it- a ball of molten metal in our throats that we cannot swallow nor spit out. Only the perfect experience, the fullness of this wordful and wordless experience here and now, can suffice to do it justice- I AM! I AM! The voice of the totality says.
The Divine Mind, mysterious and unconditioned, the Will and Imagination that causes all things to appear, has made 22 perfect thoughts- but dear reader, do not mistake these clumsy words for the reality: "perfect thoughts"- what a statement! It's just words and letters and assumptions and sounds... what the Divine Mind has done is beyond our words, and yet, for the sake of our feeble attempts to understand and join in the rapture of the infinite, we will have to use these words.
So I offer you words, and a warning: these words can become a prison cell, or they can be the keys to a freedom that is beyond appearance, concept, and what we call "reality" itself. If you Heed what I say now- that these words are NOT the things they are pointing at, these words will not harm you; if you forget that these words are NOT the things they are pointing at, these words will imprison you, and you will die in that prison. These words are no different from other words except in one way- they each want to remind you that they are only words. Do not mistake the finger pointing to the moon for the moon itself!
The 22 Greater Mysteries, as they appear in your Tarot Deck, are only one more manifestation of 22 great powers that underlie all of Manifest Reality. These are THE Mysteries, and your Tarot Images are one set of images that refer to them. If you laid out all of your Trumps in the form of a Lemniscate, with the 0 Key and the XXI Key crossed in the center, and the I-X flowing out clockwise to the right, forming the right side of the Lemniscate, and the XI-XX Keys flowing out Counterclockwise to the left, forming the left side of the Lemniscate, you would have created the perfect and ultimate picture and map of all manifest reality. You would see a graphic illustration of how the cosmos works- and how the powers in it relate to one another. You would see the path of the consciousness-principle through the "Royal Road" to the Ultimate Mystery.
I am reserving the "Lemniscate" Spread and all its mysteries for a later talk- right now, I have to finish this section of preliminary notes, so that I can move on to the object of our consideration this evening: Using the Tarot Key XIII to accomplish the work of High Necromancy, or Communion with the Dead from beyond their Graves- what I call "Calling Forth from the Grave".
What I intended to point out by mentioning the Lemniscate and the Trump Mystery-manifestations is simple: The Trumps are not just the map of the cosmos; they are the blueprint of the Divine Manifestation, and the map of the Road to the Ultimate Realization, which is the road to True Freedom and Participation in Creation at the highest level.
Each of the 22 Holy Images is a door. They are Windows into the Reaches of the Divine Mind, the Ever-fertile and Ever-birthing/producing/swallowing Mystery that all things appear from. Every experience you have ever had in your life, or will ever have, has its root in one of the Twenty-Two mysteries that we can see manifest in the Tarot Trumps.
Times in your life where your world fell apart, metaphorically, when your home was destroyed or your friends all abandoned you or everything "fell to pieces" is a manifestation of the cosmic principle embodied in Trump XVI. War and destructive violence is also a manifestation of that Trump.
When you have felt love and attraction, it was a manifestation of the cosmic principle embodied in Trump VI. When you received teachings about spiritual matters from a spiritual elder or any teacher, it was a manifestation of the cosmic principle embodied in Trump V. When you watched the seasons change, or watched people and animals age and/or die, it was a manifestation of the Cosmic Principle embodied in Trump XIII. When you felt open, free, and touched the face of enlightenment or a truly transcendent state temporarily, it was Trump 0. When you got intuitive guidance, it was from the mystery embodied in Trump II. A woman who has had children has experienced, directly, the mystery embodied in Trump III. Anytime you have drawn within, wanted to get away from others to be alone with your thoughts, and thought deeply and introspectively about life, you were feeling the mystery embodied in Trump IX. All human events and experiences, just like the cosmos, spring from these cosmic principles, and they exclude nothing.
Now, You must look upon the Trump Images as Doors, and when the Consciousness-principle can pass through them, it can move itself towards a new realm of experience, an ecstatic, strange, and subtle passage into a "spaceless" space, wherein the keys of what is called "Magic" can be "brought across" into the physical world of common perception.
When you look to doing "magic", do not forget that magic for the sake of magic is an inferior path. Magic was intended for a higher purpose- or at least, for us in the modern day, it should be intended for a higher purpose. All magical acts should be Theurgic acts, Divine Acts, intended to bring a person to the fulfillment of the Greatest Mystery. Lesser purposes can be engaged, but they, like any other operation, thought, feeling, or action, that does not bring you to the Seat of the Highest Mystery, will come to dust. Only what you do for the Infinite Mystery will last.
To engage in this work of Necromancy, of Communion with the dead, can result in many powerful outcomes: contact with those thought lost; retrieval of information carried to the grave which was also thought lost; and even guidance or some other form of lesser illumination. These are all fine and well, and cannot harm you if you bear in mind what I have said before. There is a time and a place for everything, so long as the greater perspective is held firmly in mind.
Most are already aware that the 22 Great Mysteries appear on the Tree of Life as the Paths that connect the Spheres. In Pathworking, the Paths are another mode of experiencing the power of the Mysteries.
Each of the Trumps traditionally corresponds to a Traditional Magical Art- and the key to the Inducement system is found in realizing that each Trump gives the mind access into the Realm of a particular Arcana- and within that Realm, the mind merges on many levels with the unseen powers that rule over that Magical Art. Later on, we will discuss how to "bring those powers across" into our world, from the realm of the Arcana into the Malkuth Realm, or from the Numinal into the Phenomenal. The phenomenal world is the world of Action and sum-total manifestation, so once these powers are mediated and "brought across", they can directly manifest, thus making the "Magic" work or come into being, complete with intended effects or transformations.
The innerworldly beings associated with each of these Arcana can be met directly through the Arcana, and are themselves normally the active agents of the transmission of the Mysteries of that Trump to the Magus who can successfully transfer their own consciousness-principle into the Arcana- a process we will discuss below.
Here are the traditional Magical Arts that correspond to each Trump:
Key O: Divination and Illumination
Key I: Manifestation, Healing, Divination, and Mageia or Magic as a whole
Key II: Clairvoyance and Insight
Key III: The mixing of Love Philters and Fertility-based magic, as well as attraction
Key IV: Consecration and Authority
Key V: Strength and Sanctification
Key VI: Prophecy and Attraction
Key VII: Enchantments
Key VIII: Justice
Key IX: Invisibility
Key X: Ascendancy
Key XI: Training Wild Beasts and Identification with the Daimon in its animal form (Familiar)
Key XII: Trance State Induction, Ego-inversion or Gaining New Perspectives, and Creation of Talismans
Key XIII: Necromancy
Key XIV: Transmuting, Personal Alchemy, Balance, and identification with the Daimon in its human form (HGA)
Key XV: Cursing and the Evil Eye
Key XVI: Wrath, Destruction, and Vengeance
Key XVII: Astrology and Spiritual Aspiration, the defeating of despair
Key XVIII: Casting Illusions
Key XIX: Acquiring Wealth and Happiness
Key XX: Evocation and Pyromancy
Key XXI: Geomancy, Opening the Door to the Deep Mind
This is a basic list; all adepts of the Sacred Science of Tarot already know that each Trump has elemental, zodiacal, and planetary correspondences that are further keys to what other magical workings can be utilized using each Trump.
Now I shall move into a detailed discussion of the Operation of High Necromancy, utilizing Key XIII. Key XIII is the Death Arcana, normally symbolized by the skeletal reaper, bearing his scythe, with the body parts and dead bodies of his victims behind him or on the ground, in most images. The image is usually very Saturnian, dark, brooding, and associated with the house of Scorpio, Watery imagery, and imagery of cold-blooded animals, scorpions, and the alchemical eagle. The image should be desolate, mournful, or depict the mighty strength of death, coming to topple the mighty, and all things. Any of the Death images from the decks I mentioned above are fine.
The Death Arcana is "The Child of the Great Transformers, Lord of the Gate of Death"- it is (as I have mentioned in a previous essay regarding the symbolism of the Trumps) The power of continual and non-stop transformation in the world of action and manifestation. Things have to grow, change, and die, to move on to other aspects of their journey through the grand design or appearance of reality. Death may not be simply the power of transformation; but this is how we mortals experience it while we are embodied. We must relate to it, (at least to begin with) in this manner.
Death's fear, strangely arbitrary-seeming nature, and occasional cruelty is not without purpose; Death fulfills a vital function in the workings of the Cosmos. It is easy enough to say that, or to say you believe it, but something else entirely to give yourself over to it, when your time comes. The Death Arcana is not just the manifest reality of change and dissolution of forms- it is also a mystery, something greater and beyond the manifestations, THOUGH NEVER APART from the manifestations. We must look deeper into the "death behind death"- the spiritual root of it.
One thing is for certain- Death is a universal aspect of manifest reality, operating on every manifest level. It cannot be avoided, and the Wise must learn to understand it, if they wish to (quite literally) survive it, without succumbing to its power to reduce to nothing the mortal memory and the contents of the mortal mindstream. Life- and Philosophy- is really a preparation for Death.
The Death Trump is the key to the spiritual powers and agencies that manifest from the spiritual root of the Death Realm and the Death Mystery, and who reign over the art of Necromancy. If you wish to unlock the keys of Necromancy, you must psychically engage the Death Arcana.
I wish to approach this working, as well as any other working in the Divine Inducement system, in a sort of "scientific" manner- You must be cautious of the power of the illusion-creating force of the ego working in conjunction with the unilluminated imagination. Many, many magical workings are victims of the illusion-making power that runs through the totality of creation, and which preys on the ego. To separate ourselves from charlatans and the deluded, these workings will have to be tested; results will be demanded from the "dead" that you will attempt to contact, asking them to supply you with evidence for the contact independent of the working.
This will be done by requesting, firstly, that your contacts cause you to dream of them, at some point after the initial working or workings. I consider this to be a fair test; you can even extend this test to others. Sleep is a powerful yet unbalanced time, as the force of Illusions (from Trump XVIII) is part of the realm that the consciousness-principle moves through when the body is sleeping, and the mind is in the mode to dream. However, you are more aware, on subtle levels, when you are dreaming. Using sleep as a passport to a more subtle realm offers a contact a means of reaching you that is not consciously chosen on your part, and can act as a sign that your working was a success. Traditional divinations can also be used to test the reality of your workings and your results. I suggest that you be vigilant and skeptical until many sources have verified your experiences.
We will discuss this more soon.
The Ritual of Key XIII
PREPARATIONS:
Before you can engage the Arcana mentally, you must prepare your mind and body.
The Death Arcana is aligned to the House of Scorpio, and the best times of year to work with High Necromancy are the traditional times associated with Scorpio, Between October 24 and November 22. This is during the time in the year when festivals and holy days to the Dead are common worldwide, the Hallows Eve and Samhain of the West, and the Feasts of All Saints in the Christian tradition. Any time of year where Scorpio has an overlap or influence would also be a strong time for attempts at these workings. Naturally, any working can be attempted at any time, but it is wise to consider the factors in the environment, among the land and stars, that can be of assistance or hindrance.
This working is Saturnian. It is best done on Saturdays, in the night, and in the hours aligned to Saturn or Mars.
You should prepare yourself for this work by bringing the force of Lead into your own personal body-principle; lead talismans inscribed with Saturnian sigils would be fine, but any piece of raw lead can be worn in a pouch or bag around your neck, or carried on your person. This is a minor detail, and not absolutely necessary, but in your preparation time, you will find that it has a subtle and helpful effect.
When you "prepare", you are attempting to put yourself as far as you can into the Saturnian Current. Carrying lead is just one small detail of that; you should "bring together" as many of these "aids" as you can. Surround yourself with watery imagery, and drink a lot of cold water. You should fast on the day that you do the work, eating nothing except three special foods, which I will mention below, and drink only cold water.
The only foods you should eat are red pomegranate seeds, red apples, and red beans or beans of some kind. That is all. These foods are traditionally associated with the Underworld and the Dead, and thought to be the foods of the dead themselves. They act to align you with the Hadean reality, and the Saturnian current. No warm liquid should be drunk by you, ever- and you should avoid sweet liquids above all. This is why I suggest only cold water, or cold vinegar sips, to help with the "cold bitter" force of the Saturnian current. Abstain from warm human contact and try to be alone.
The Fasting is the central and most important aspect of the preparation, because eating, and drinking warm liquids, are the tasks of the living. To eat feeds the warm power in the body, increases it, gives the body strength to live. Not eating is Saturnian, it denies the body, lowers its power. The dead do not eat.
During your preparation, you must meditate on death, and on the image of the Death Trump. Consider your own end, inevitable and moving closer with every second. Visit graveyards and the like, and just sit. If it is cold outside, do not go overboard to keep yourself warm; you want to shiver a bit, to feel the Saturnian cold.
Listen to music that is mournful during this time; avoid loud, energetic music or happy music. Requiems are perfect for this introspective time.
Prayers should be offered to the Powers of Death; Christians have Angels (Hermetic Angellos) who deal with death specifically, as do Many Ceremonial magicians of various traditions. Pagans or Hermetically inclined magi of any kind should pay attention to the Underworldly current of mythology, and offer prayers to Hades, Thanatos, Mercury-Hermes Psychopompos, and Cronos-Saturn. Dark Dame Wisdom or Sophia, embodied in the Icon of Persephone, is also key to this operation. More broadly, any of the Gods of the Dead from cultural systems you have a mature, advanced working connection to can be brooded upon and prayed to for guidance. The Supreme Mystery can be prayed to or meditated upon, silly though that may seem to some, for there is no shame in turning your attentions even to what can never be understood; one might say there is wisdom in turning outward (or inward!) to what cannot be known in the usual sense. At any rate, the world of the magus is never what it seems.
WORKING PHASE I: PREPARING THE WORKSPACE AND THE ESTABLISHING/ATTUNING MEDITATION
When you have prepared yourself, and have fasted for 24 hours before the start of your working, then on the day and time you chose for your working, you will proceed to your working place, where you should have the following items:
Your seat and a table
An incense burner
A candle or lamp of Art
The Tarot card of Trump XIII
A bowl of cold, clean water, with a tiny amount of salt mixed into it (sea salt, or, failing that, natron)
A chime or bell
Relax yourself and hold your hands over the water.
"I call upon the Mystery that is Infinite,
Hidden and Manifest, Awesome and Invisible God,
Mysterious even to the Dead;
Depth, Source, Parent; Bornless, Supreme;
I call upon the Mother of the World
Most Powerful and Pervasive Wisdom,
Consoler who has imparted the Holy Mysteries,
Source of All and Mother of the Word;
I call upon the Immortal Word of the Divine
Who has made all things to appear
Teacher, Messenger of the Most High,
Swift-winged, Desirous, Light of the Beginning;
I call upon this Trinity bearing Empty Spirits-
Let that Emptiness be my Fullness and Hearken now:
Bless this water that it may scatter Unclean Powers and Spirits
And bestow purity and wholeness upon whomever or whatever it may touch."
Then take the water and sprinkle it around your table, and onto your table and your other implements, and then anoint yourself with it.
Sit down, and place the Trump-image in the center of your table, and arrange it to where the candle illuminates it. You can purchase or make stands if you want the card to stand up, for ease of meditating on it. Light either some frankincense, jasmine, or a Saturnian incense.
Ring the chime or bell thirteen times, slowly, steadily.
Then, make an out loud spoken prayer or invocation to the powers of the Death Arcana, as you did during your preparation period.
Sit and do the first meditation on the Trump-image. Fix your gaze on it in silence, and let yourself absorb the image, completely and totally. You should take the image so completely into your memory that you can as easily see it with your eyes closed as well as open.
While you are doing this, you can (if you like) slowly and monotonously chant "key words" for the power of the Arcana- such as the powers you prayed to during your preparation. Anything to help you attain a meditative state of absorption, aligned to the current of the Arcana.
Once you have the image totally absorbed into your mind and memory, you must engage it on the "next deeper" level- you must close your eyes and view the image with your inner eyes, but now, allow the image to become "alive"- let it animate itself for each of your senses- that is, see the wind blowing the folds of people's clothes on your image, or smell the smells of the scene. Let the Death-figure in the image move slightly, turn his head, move his scythe about. Hear the sounds of mournful winds in the background. See the image as though you were looking through a window into the Death Arcana Realm.
Once you have made it "alive" strongly in your mind for at least 10-20 minutes, just passively observing it, you have succeeded in establishing the initial attunement.
WORKING PHASE II: THE DOOR INTO THE ARCANA
Now visualize that you are standing in front of a stone wall, of the kind that once walled off orchards or gardens. There should be a dark wooden door in the wall, with an old lamp hanging over it.
You should not be able to see over the wall; it should be very high. On the door should be a central panel with the image of Trump XIII embossed or carved or painted on it. Approach the door and meditate on the image of Trump XIII in the middle of the door.
You should know that beyond this door and wall is the actual Realm of Arcana XIII, the Realm of the Death-Principle; the vast realm of the Great Lord of Transformations and the Death Gate. What awaits beyond the door and wall is a power that will manifest to your mind and imagination in symbolic terms, but these symbols are, like the Trump image, "links" between the unknowable roots of this power and your consciousness principle. You are going to engage these things in the union brought about by the Arcana image.
Push the door open and walk in. What happens beyond this is only known to you- but below, I am going to share my own experience, explain how these experiences can be "brought across", and explain what I came to understand. What I learned from my working can be used by anyone, and they should (if they choose to utilize it) test it for themselves as I did. I will make no comments about the results of the work, for they are too personal to me. But I encourage you to consider that I've spent hours typing this now- I believe in it for a reason. Whatever happens to you in the Death Arcana Realm, make sure you leave the way you came, closing the door behind you.
My Experience in the Death Realm, and What I learned
Before I make account of what I saw, remember that every person's experience will be different. I am only telling what I saw because what I saw and experienced led me to learn a method of High Necromancy that I want to share here, in this section and in the following section.
When I pushed the door open, I noticed that it was night-time beyond the door, even though in my inner vision, it was daytime on my side of the wall. I walked through the door, and saw a low, spread out moor, with low hills. There was a dirt trail leading away from my entrance, going off across this nighted landscape. As I followed it, strange white mists would form in the air, which was chilled, and the misty shapes would vanish.
I came to a fork in the dirt trail, where another trail branched off from the main one I was following. I could see that the branch-off led to a walled city of some kind, or what might have been a high-walled cemetery, with nothing but mausoleums inside, mausoleums with spires and roofs jutting up above the walls. It could have been either.
I followed the trail to the "City", and came to an adamantine gate, with two terrible statues on either side of it. I knew this was the Gate into this "city", and at that moment, the guards of the door (who were pretty disturbing) spoke into my mind that a password was required to pass through. They seemed a touch severe.
I gave the supreme Password of the Mysteries- that which will open any door- the Sound of Silence. This sound is the Hissing of the Great Serpent who is another appearance of the Lord of Light; it is the "SSSSS" sound made in the Mithraic liturgy. This sound is actually a password- it is made by breathing out between slowly and steadily between the teeth- to where the air lightly whistles between your teeth. It sounds like a serpent; it is the hiss of the Serpent that appeared in Greece as the sacred beast representing Asklepius/Apollo, the God of Light and the Occult Mysteries.
This Serpent Power is channeled by the hissing- but it has a deeper significance, as deep as the timeless power of the Serpent, and it opens any door by virtue of the Serpent-power; it is the "sound" of silence, the sound of the All-pervading divine force that entered into the primal world to shape the worlds, and which came to rest in the deep, and which Snakes its way back up the Tree of Life, as the Serpentine Path of redemption and ascent. This serpent-force and its manifestation in sound is the entire motion of divinity and creation.
As you make this sound, you are aligning yourself with the force of inward-return of divine power, the Redeeming path and force, and the Ascent force of the initiatory mysteries. It is the sound of the Lord of All, the Lord of Light, Mithras-Apollon Ophion, or the Christos in his brightest form as the Mystery-god.
I gave the password; the door opened, and I went into this City which turned out to be (as I had guessed) a City of Sepulchers. I knew that I was not very far into the Realm of Trump XIII- this "City" was near my entrance; I could sense how vast the entire realm was. I was determined to discover what this place was for now, however, and return while I still had a good energetic level and recall. The Sepulchral City was very desolate and "heavy"- very strongly "weighted down" as though the weight of the ages was on it. The streets were bare stone, and the city itself seemed to stretch on forever, being filled with countless tombs and mausoleums. None of them had any names on them. Not a sound could be heard.
I needed guidance, so I called upon my Daimon in its beast-form, the Familiar whose task it is to guide adepts through otherworldly locations such as these, or should I say, to act as the intelligent "guide" to these appearances of subjective experience, to communicate to me what I was seeing and what could be done.
I made the call, this invocation, and my Daimon, appearing as the Owl that it always appears as, rose from the depths, through my body-principle and into my "chest" (the place where the familiar or Daimon-animal interacts with the person) and from there was able to commune with me directly. He led me through the narrow alleyways between these countless tombs, and came to stop in front of one that was open, and empty.
He then mediated to me what the unseen (but sensed) powers of this place wanted me to know- that each of these tombs was the tomb of a dead person, and for each dead person was a tomb. The dead, I was told, sleep in a dark, deep state, mostly unaware of their new condition. Some live in fantasy worlds where they lead their lives normally, unaware of what has occurred (or should I say, what is occurring). Some are simply "asleep" or in a deep unconsciousness. Others could not be reached for other reasons. Some thought that they were dreaming, and experiencing the full range of strangeness that can occur in dreams.
Either way, I was told, these tombs are the interaction point between a living person who would come here, and the condition of the dead person whose tomb you stood before.
At this point, I should mention- if you do not have conscious "knowledge" or conversation with your Daimon, your spiritual self, who acts as a timeless and god-like entity guiding and guarding your mortal experience, you will not be able to do much with these Inducement workings, for you need their protection and guidance. The use of Keys XI and XIV are the "doors" to achieve conscious identification with this all-important being; Key XI is where the Daimon-beast form is identified with, and XIV is where the "Angel" or the Daimon in human form is encountered. The "tempering" of the human or mortal consciousness-principle with numinous force from the numinal realm (symbolized by the Angel of temperance pouring the divine power into the mortal cup) is needed to make a Magus capable of any work of real Theurgy or effective magic. The tempering force of the Daimon-beast is no less needed- the lower nature is sublimated and brought under control by the Daimon-beast, like the woman of XI overpowering the lion- but then the sublimated lower nature becomes a great source of power, where before it was a source of uncontrolled conflict in the psyche.
I was told that a living person had the power to "call the dead from their tombs"- though Necromancy, in the same manner that the adept, who represents the conscious totality, was able to "roll away the stone" before the tomb, and call the dead out. A person had to be alive- living- in consciousness and body principle, and then could call into the dark unconscious state of death. This had to do with the realm of life interacting consciously with the realm of death.
I was further told that if a person were to go to the tomb of a person here, and open the door, and place some message within, the dead person would simultaneously "Receive" the message that was placed inside. I was told that this reception would be experienced by the dead precisely like a "strong intuition" or a "vision" would be received by a living, conscious person- suddenly, in the middle of their condition, the dead would suddenly become aware of the contents of the message.
For the dead who were unaware of their dead condition, this could be traumatic, but at the same time, it could be enlightening to them, releasing them from their lost experience.
Either way, this is how messages were gotten to the Dead- the Living Necromancer had to "call into the tomb" as it were; but this could be taken further. The voice of the dead, a contact back from them could be "called out of the grave", as I will mention shortly.
To find the needed tomb of the dead person required the guidance of the Daimon- only that being (your all-knowing spiritual otherworldly self) could actually "find" the tomb in this infinity of tombs.
I saw a vision of someone coming to a tomb with a parchment, upon which was written the message they had for the Dead, opening the tomb, and laying the parchment inside. I knew then what I could do, and how to do it- but there was one more element missing. I will discuss it next.
I thanked these powers, and had my Daimon guide me out of the Sepulcher city, and out of the Arcana Realm. I was done.
WORKING PHASE III: BRINGING THE MYSTERIES ACROSS INTO THE WORLD OF MANIFESTATION
Here is what you must do, if you wish to utilize this working, (or any other in the Inducement system) for tangible effect.
I will use this working as an example.
The work must be done within, THEN IT MUST BE DONE WITHOUT.
What happened on the inner planes must then be done in "this world". When what has happened within is enacted without, the power "bridges over" into this world, and it comes to manifest.
If I wanted to speak with my dead Grandmother (for example), I would do as I did above- and once inside the Sepulcher City, ask my Daimon to guide me to her tomb. If there was no name on it, I was told to carve her name on the door.
I was then told to write out what I wished to tell her, whatever message I wished to give, and open the tomb-door, and lay it inside, then close it. The I would leave the city, and leave the Arcana totally.
That completes the inner work.
Immediately afterwards, the physical room that I performed the work in has to become transformed into the Death Arcana. The door to the room would become the door that you passed through when you opened the door in the wall and entered the Arcana on the inner level.
You should set up the inside of the room to mimic every stage of your inner journey- no matter what your journey was like. I took stones and made a trail leading away from the door, into the center of the room, and had another road forking away from it, leading to a tiny miniature of a door (I made it with bricks) and beyond it, I made a model of a tomb from bricks.
I physically wrote out the SAME message I wrote on the inner level, on a real piece of paper, and carried it with me.
I then went to the door of my working room, and said the same invocations/prayers I said before the Arcana image, and visualized it being on the door. Then I pushed it open and went inside. I followed the trail I made, just as I had before- the room was darkened, with very little light, and I had it colder inside my room, as well.
I walked down the fork from the trail, came to the city "gate", and made the sound of the Supreme Password of the Mysteries, just as I had in the vision, stepped over it, and invoked my Daimon again. I stood in front of the "tomb" and opened it, and laid my paper inside it, closed it, and left.
I left the room just as before, and it was done. The work was outwardly done; the power was in both worlds, bridged over by the similarity of the event- a sympathetic working between two worlds- and the work was done.
This work should be tested, as I mentioned above- and in my letter, I asked the dead person I was trying to reach to communicate to me in a dream at some point in my future (preferably quickly), revealing that they got the message. They are therefore "called forth" from the Grave, by a living magi, and communed with on a deep level. TWo-way communications can occur this way easily- but the dead can also be coaxed or asked to do other things- very unscrupulous Necromancers were known to try to coerce the dead in many ways.
At any rate, The secret is in mimicking what you do internally, externally. The true "powers" that you need to interact with are met internally; if they show you how to do something, you must not only internalize it, but perform it in this world as well.
If you did it only in this world, it would not work, as it would lack the needed root-reality or inner reality. If it was done only in the innerworld, you could gain good insights, but it would forever remain at least mostly in "potential"- waiting to manifest.
You must use the "magician" principle; taking, with your physical hands, the implements of magic, representing anything you saw in the innerworld, and arrange them on the "table" or room before you, and utilize them in accordance with Otherworldly patterns. Then any reality can be transformed.
The Keys to many advanced Workings have been given in this essay. I hope that you make good use of them all. A wise magus will use these Keys to bring about Spiritual Illumination, preferring that goal to lesser goals, but many lesser goals can be obtained as well, to make your own life or the lives of others better.
